PLEASE NOTE: this may not be an exact transcript, but heck, it’ll do!

In this video you are going to experience a super-fast process to get into deep gratitude when you are too busy for gratitude, and I’ll tell you about my experience with that. Also, at the very end, I’ll tell you about my favorite process that’s is slightly longer but it goes deep – and I use it all the time to get calm and Centered and uplifted  – and you can use it to calm any anxiety, so stick around to the end, you’ll want to know how to go deeper, it is very powerful.

So… Thanksgiving is coming up, but that’s not the only time we “need to do gratitude” – this is for anytime. Thanksgiving reminded me, “Oh, I need to do a blog or a video about gratitude, but I don’t have time!”

“I don’t have time to be grateful, I’m too busy, I should be more grateful but I’ll do it later, tonight when I go to bed,” but then I’m too tired – or “tomorrow when I do my morning morphic mantras and meditation” but then I get caught up in something else, and then later I’ll see someone’s Thanksgiving newsletter that’s all sanctimonious about being grateful and then I remember, “Oh, I need to be more grateful, I’m just too busy to be grateful right this second.”

Then I have to laugh. Because that’s like thinking:

“I don’t have time for the space between breaths.” “I’m always running running running, gotta get my oxygen so I can run run run.”

Or…

“I don’t have time for the yin in my yang, just gimme the yang, man, gimme all yang all the time, gimme gimme gimme, hey wait a minute, gimme gimme gimme is like, totally yin!”

But you have to be in at least somewhat of a Yin receptive headspace to feel gratitude. And that’s what the space between breaths is for. I’ll show you in a minute that the space between breaths can show you

How to “Cheat” at Gratitude when you are Too Busy

And I don’t mean “cheat” in the sense of getting away with something unethically. I mean like a cheat sheet, a reminder, a tool, a lever, a shortcut.

This is a shortcut to gratitude. It takes less than one second – and it totally works to give you 100% of the energetic benefits of gratitude! And even if it’s 90% we’ll take it, because only assholes demand spiritual perfection. And we need to stop being assholes to ourselves.

This shortcut allows you to locate and connect with gratitude even when you are scattered, ungrounded, busy, overwhelmed, depressed, angry, feeling sorry for yourself, worried, or physically hurting.

Rather than forcing ourselves to feel grateful, or dutifully keeping a gratitude journal – and gratitude journals are great by the way, this is just a different tool – so rather than setting our clock reminders or cajoling and coaxing ourselves into being grateful inside ourselves when we’re just not there, sometimes it’s just easier to simply locate gratitude outside of ourselves. Where does gratitude already exist in the universe? If I can’t observe it inside myself because I’m not Centered right, then where can I observe it outside of myself?

So I’ll walk you through this quick process.

At first while I’m explaining it, it will take a minute, but then after you get the hang of it, it will take a second or two.

Let’s find the larger field of gratitude.

In a moment I’m going to ask you to breathe a certain way, so start noticing your breath, start breathing a little deeper but don’t force it, just be gentle and comfortable. I’m going to ask you, not yet, but in a moment,  to exhale and then before you inhale again, you’ll pause for a second  and simply notice the space between breaths. The empty space where nothing happens.

Let’s do than now. Breathe in… and out… and wait a second before you inhale… then keep breathing while waiting a second or two before inhaling again. Comfortably, don’t force yourself to breathe deeply, don’t force the pause, if you can only pause for a half-second, that’s fine.

So I’ll be quiet for a few breaths, so you can easily notice that space between breaths, and I’ll be doing some silent Alignments too. Go head, breathe and pause before you inhale, breathe and pause.

OK, so what we did was a version of going to Center, which I talk a lot about in all my other Now Healing experiences, so I won’t go into it here.

In the Centered space between breaths, gratitude is almost automatic.

If, for one second, we just pay attention to that momentary nothingness – that emptiness between exhale and inhale – we get more Centered and more grounded and more gathered into the cosmic Center.

And then, we become aware of that space as already filled with gratitude.  Gratitude already exists there.

Gratitude does not have to be a big emotion of thank you thank you thank you. It can be just that simple empty awareness. Before any kind of defining thought even forms…

Breathe in, breath out, pause…

Nonchalantly notice what IS. Keep breathing. And keep noticing what is, you don’t have to wait for the space between breaths now.

Notice what is. Notice all of it. You are now aware of all-that-is.

If you sit with that for a moment longer, then awe happens. Just a small quiet homeopathic quantity of awe. Which contains the larger Awe. Notice ALL of it.

So that there’s no difference between Awareness and Awe.

That’s the Ground of Gratitude: the effortless sameness of Awareness and Awe.

Let’s put that into action. Even when you’re busy preparing Thanksgiving dinner… take a breath, notice the pause.

How to give thanks for the food, and the preparation? Awareness. Without any other thoughts or shoulds, just simple awareness, notice the food. Then allow that awareness to expand…  to awe at the larger field of food and bounty and the cosmic cornucopia. Feel the Awesomeness of All of that! All-that-IS! Zoom out from yourself, from the food, out to larger context, the larger field of all-that-is, and gratitude is right there, it’s automatic.

How to be grateful for all the other bountiful blessings of earth, water, fire, air, life itself?  Awareness. Simply notice their existence without judgement or opinion.

Notice the fact that you are alive right now. And expand your awareness of your aliveness out to the cosmos, out to all of it and beyond.

Is that not gratitude?

Give thanks to the earth and sun and life, for nurturing and sustaining us

Who taught us how to grow and prepare food? Our mothers and fathers… our ancestors. Become aware of them, zoom out your awareness, to your 4 biological grandparents, and zoom back farther and you’ll find a million ancestors who came before you, and feel the awe of that huge number of humans and proto humans.

How to give thanks to those who were on the land before us, not always ancestors but cousins. Use your Awareness to locate and tune in to them. Who was here, before us pilgrims, that taught us how to grow the new food of all the new worlds that humans have expanded to?

For me, where I sit now, the Tongva people walked here, and before them the other countless, unnameable living beings who walked or crawled or flew or rooted themselves to the earth under my current home.

To my ancestors who walked on at least three other continents. Who swam in distant seas. Who coupled with carbon and oxygen. Who burst from newborn stars.

And here’s to all our ancestors: Indigenous, Invader, Immigrant, Involuntary or not. Every single one of us is part-all-four. All-of-the-above. All-that-IS.

So breathe into your Center… and notice what gratitude is presenting itself to you right now – and please put it in the comments. Whether you’re watching this live, or as a later recording, add your gratitude, your awe.

I’ll do some silent closing Alignments, as you are typing into the comments area, to Amplify your Awareness and Awe. Go ahead and type now.

Great, thank you, I will read the comments after I end the video.

And I’ll just recap your take-away from all this, the fast process to which is to use your awareness of the space between your breaths to get Centered, to notice awe at all that is, to plug into the larger field of gratitude in one second.

And please share this!

And one more thing I want to mention,

If you want to go deeper to get your mood and mind Centered and calm and uplifted, so that it’s easier to not feel busy and scattered and upset and angry and worried… this is my favorite process that I use myself all the time to uplift my mood, and I’ve created a program that you can use too

It’s called Elevate your Mood and Mind

First of all, thank you, you are amazing! I love how you express and describe these things! And the transliteration that shows up on my screen is hilarious, not sure why it’s there at all, but very fun. Thank you and happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you Elma for this beautiful reminder. The breath is what makes us alive and connected, and no breath is a connecting to the Zero Point. So both are crucial to our happiness. Loved your audio! the simplicity of the realization of this connection – is phenomenal! I will use it and think about the gratitude whenever I breath consciously. It gives another bottom to the breathing meditation too; also works like a detox for me. I am soooo grateful for you Elma : ) you bring so much Light – always!
Much love from me – Ania

i am in awe and amazement of the simplicitude and the honesty of your observations and teachings. being used to seeing high brow religious pomposity
this is totally other worldly and wholesome that is totally relatable at an every day level. unable to purchase your inspirations at the moment, but waiting for a few
droplets that spillover from your cup of life, in the form emails with your pithy sayings . i get lost for a moment in oneness and wholeness. thanks elma, awaiting your further instructives

Many modules saying the same with long sometimes complicated narratives——THIS is so simple to be almost unbelievable

however it takes faith in the process AND what a relief that it works —–that in itself is calming !!

Thank you Elma ( much appreciated in these times)
